The second day of our North Bali Wilderness Expedition begins long before sunrise, offering one of the most unforgettable experiences in Bali’s hidden mountains.
At around 3:00 AM, we wake up to the peaceful sounds of the forest. After enjoying a light breakfast and a warm cup of coffee or tea, we prepare our trekking equipment and begin the ascent to the summit of Mount Sanghyang under a sky filled with countless stars. Walking through the cool mountain air with only the light of our headlamps creates a truly magical atmosphere, making this early morning adventure an experience in itself.
The trail gradually climbs through pristine tropical forest, where towering trees, fresh mountain air, and the quiet sounds of nature accompany every step. Unlike Bali’s more popular trekking routes, Mount Sanghyang remains one of the island’s best-kept secrets, allowing you to enjoy the peaceful wilderness without the crowds.
After reaching the summit, all the effort is rewarded with one of the most spectacular sunrise panoramas in Bali. As the first rays of sunlight slowly illuminate the horizon, the surrounding landscape transforms into an incredible sea of mountains, forests, lakes, and coastline.
From the summit of Mount Sanghyang, you can enjoy breathtaking 360-degree views across the island. On a clear morning, it is possible to admire many of Bali’s famous volcanoes standing proudly above the clouds, including Mount Agung, Mount Batur, Mount Batukaru, Mount Catur, Mount Abang, and several other mountain peaks stretching across the island.
Looking west, the view extends beyond Bali itself, revealing the distant mountains of Java Island rising above the horizon. To the north, an endless panorama unfolds across North Bali, where green forests meet traditional villages before reaching the sparkling coastline of the Bali Sea. Watching the sunrise from this hidden summit is a peaceful and unforgettable moment that very few visitors have the opportunity to experience.
After spending time enjoying the scenery and capturing photographs, we carefully descend from Mount Sanghyang and continue our wilderness expedition toward another remarkable destination—Mount Lesung.
The journey between Mount Sanghyang and Mount Lesung offers a completely different trekking experience. Rather than focusing only on mountain scenery, this section of the expedition leads us deep into one of Bali’s oldest rainforest ecosystems, where nature and spirituality have coexisted for centuries.
As we enter the sacred forest surrounding Lake Tamblingan, the atmosphere becomes calm and mystical. Ancient trees covered with moss, giant ferns, and dense tropical vegetation create a magical landscape that feels untouched by time.
One of the highlights of this journey is visiting the sacred Naga Loka Temple, a peaceful temple hidden deep within the rainforest. Surrounded by towering trees and natural silence, the temple reflects the deep spiritual connection between the Balinese people and the surrounding wilderness.
Continuing along the forest trail, we discover several other hidden temples that remain unknown to most visitors. These sacred sites have been carefully preserved for generations and are still used by local communities for important religious ceremonies. Walking between these ancient temples allows travelers to experience a unique combination of cultural heritage, spiritual tradition, and pristine nature.

Our campsite is carefully prepared beside Lake Tamblingan, where we will spend the night immersed in the peaceful beauty of nature. As evening falls, the calm waters reflect the surrounding forest while the sounds of birds, insects, and gentle breezes create an atmosphere of complete serenity.
Sharing dinner around the campsite beneath a sky filled with stars is the perfect ending to an incredible day of exploration.
