Some tours allow you to see beautiful places. Others allow you to truly experience the spirit of a destination. Our Twin Lake Jungle Trekking Tour with Bali Local Tour Guide did exactly that, taking us deep into the heart and soul of Bali for a day we will never forget.
We joined the tour with a group of friends, including several Balinese friends who know the island well. Surprisingly, even they were amazed by the untouched beauty of the Twin Lakes region and admitted they had never experienced Bali quite like this before. That alone says a lot about how unique this adventure really is.
Our day began before sunrise at a spectacular viewpoint overlooking Lake Buyan and Lake Tamblingan. As the first light of the morning slowly illuminated the mist-covered lakes, we stood in silence watching one of the most breathtaking sunrises we have ever seen. The peaceful atmosphere and panoramic scenery were the perfect start to an unforgettable journey.
After sunrise, our local guide led us into the ancient rainforest surrounding the lakes. The trail was enjoyable and not too difficult, making it suitable for almost anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. As we walked beneath the towering jungle canopy, our guide shared fascinating stories about the forest, explaining the medicinal plants, native wildlife, and centuries-old trees that make this protected ecosystem so special.
One of the highlights of the trek was seeing the enormous ancient ficus trees. Standing beneath these giant trees was an incredible experience and made us appreciate the age and beauty of Bali’s tropical rainforest. Every section of the trail revealed something new, from lush ferns and tropical flowers to the peaceful sounds of birds hidden among the trees. One helpful tip for future visitors—don’t forget to bring mosquito repellent, especially if you’re trekking during the wetter months.
Eventually, we descended to the tranquil shoreline of Lake Tamblingan, where traditional wooden canoes were waiting for us. Crossing the lake by canoe was one of the most peaceful moments of the day. With only the sound of paddles touching the water and the surrounding rainforest reflected on the calm lake, it felt like stepping back in time. On the opposite shore, we paused to visit one of the sacred lakeside temples, learning about its spiritual importance in Balinese culture.
Our adventure continued with another wonderful local guide who welcomed us warmly and led us to one of the area’s hidden waterfalls. Thanks to the excellent planning of the itinerary, we arrived before other visitors, allowing us to swim in the crystal-clear natural pool and enjoy the peaceful surroundings almost entirely to ourselves. It was the perfect place to cool off after the jungle trek.
For lunch, we enjoyed a traditional Balinese meal—simple, fresh, and absolutely delicious. Our guide served us Nasi Bungkus with chicken, a classic local lunch wrapped in banana leaves that perfectly reflected the authentic character of the tour.
Just when we thought the adventure was over, another memorable surprise awaited us. We visited our guide’s family home, where he operates a small traditional coffee-roasting kitchen. He proudly demonstrated how local Balinese coffee is roasted using traditional methods before serving us a freshly brewed cup. As we relaxed, he showed us around his small farm and treated us to freshly fried bananas, creating a warm and personal experience that made us feel more like visiting friends than joining a commercial tour.
Looking back, this journey was so much more than a hike. It combined breathtaking scenery, rainforest exploration, traditional canoeing, hidden waterfalls, authentic Balinese food, local coffee, cultural encounters, and genuine hospitality into one perfectly organised experience. Every guide we met was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and passionate about sharing the natural and cultural heritage of North Bali.
We left with unforgettable memories, incredible photographs, and a much deeper appreciation for the authentic beauty of Bali. If you are looking for an experience that goes beyond the usual tourist attractions and truly connects you with nature, culture, and local people, we cannot recommend the Twin Lake Jungle Trekking Tour highly enough.
Thank you, Bali Local Tour Guide, for giving us one of the most memorable experiences of our entire trip to Bali. We will definitely recommend your tours to our family and friends and hope to return again someday.
