Detailed Mount Ijen Itinerary
1. Pick-Up from Your Hotel in Bali
Approximately 5:00–6:00 PM Bali Time
Your Mount Ijen adventure begins with a private pick-up from your hotel in Bali.
The exact departure time depends on your hotel location. Guests staying in southern Bali may require an earlier departure than guests staying closer to West Bali.
We recommend being ready before the scheduled pick-up time so the journey can begin smoothly.
From your hotel, we travel toward Gilimanuk, the main ferry crossing between Bali and Java.
2. Bali to Java by Ferry
After arriving at the ferry port, we board the ferry and cross the Bali Strait to East Java.
The ferry crossing is an important part of the experience because Mount Ijen is located in East Java, so the journey combines road travel, sea crossing, and mountain trekking.
Please note that Java is one hour behind Bali.
For example:
10:00 PM Bali Time = 9:00 PM Java Time
Your itinerary below uses Java time after arriving in Java, so there is no confusion during the night journey.
3. Arrival at Our Local Base Camp
Approximately 10:00 PM Java Time
After arriving in Java, we continue by vehicle toward our local base camp near Mount Ijen.
At the base camp, you have time to relax before the trek.
We provide:
- Coffee
- Tea
- Simple meal/snack
- Drinking water
- Time to rest
- Trekking equipment preparation
- Final preparation before leaving for Mount Ijen
This base-camp stop is also useful because it gives you a chance to organize your belongings and prepare for the early-morning trek.
4. Drive to Mount Ijen Starting Point
Approximately 1:30 AM Java Time
At around 1:30 AM, we leave the base camp by vehicle and drive toward the starting point of the Mount Ijen trek.
The journey from the base camp to the trailhead is arranged as part of the trip, so you do not need to organize separate transportation.
Once we arrive, we prepare for the climb and begin the trek.
5. Mount Ijen Trekking
Trekking starts around 2:30 AM Java Time
The trek begins at approximately 2:30 AM.
The ascent takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours, depending on your walking pace, trail conditions, and stops along the way.
During the climb, your local guide will accompany you and help you navigate the trail.
The early start is important because the itinerary is designed to combine two major Mount Ijen experiences:
🔵 Blue Fire
One of the highlights of the Mount Ijen experience is the opportunity to see the famous blue fire phenomenon in the volcanic area.
The visibility of blue fire depends on natural conditions, volcanic activity, weather, safety regulations, and access conditions on the day of your visit.
Because this is a natural volcanic phenomenon, blue fire cannot be guaranteed.
Your safety always comes first. If authorities or local conditions restrict access to certain areas, the itinerary may need to be adjusted.
6. Sunrise at Mount Ijen
After the Blue Fire experience, we continue with the Mount Ijen sunrise experience.
As the night changes into morning, the surrounding volcanic landscape begins to become visible.
Depending on weather and visibility, you may see:
- Ijen Crater landscape
- Volcanic mountain scenery
- Surrounding East Java mountains
- Crater lake views
- Sunrise colors
- Local sulfur-mining activity in the area
Take your time to enjoy the landscape and capture photographs before beginning the descent.
7. Descend from Mount Ijen
Around 7:00 AM Java Time
At approximately 7:00 AM, we begin walking back down toward the starting point.
The descent is generally easier than the ascent, but the trail can still be uneven and requires appropriate footwear.
Your guide will accompany you during the descent and help coordinate the return to the vehicle.
8. Breakfast at the Base Camp
Approximately 9:00–10:00 AM Java Time
After completing the trek, we return to our base camp.
Breakfast is served at approximately 9:00–10:00 AM.
This is a chance to relax, freshen up, enjoy breakfast, and recover after the overnight journey and mountain trek.
9. Return Journey to Bali
Around 10:00 AM Java Time
After breakfast, we begin the journey back toward the Java ferry port.
We continue by vehicle to the ferry crossing and prepare to cross the Bali Strait again.
10. Java to Bali by Ferry
Around 11:00 AM Bali Time
We cross back from Java to Bali by ferry.
Because Java is one hour behind Bali, please pay attention to the time zone when following the itinerary.
Once we arrive in Bali, we continue directly by private vehicle toward your hotel.
11. Arrive Back at Your Hotel in Bali
Approximately 1:00 PM Bali Time
After arriving back in Bali, we continue directly to your hotel.
The estimated arrival time is around 1:00 PM Bali time, although the actual arrival can vary depending on:
- Road traffic
- Ferry waiting time
- Ferry operating conditions
- Weather
- Mountain conditions
- Trail conditions
- Government or local regulations
Your Mount Ijen experience ends with drop-off directly at your hotel in Bali.
