Twin Lake Jungle Tour – A Peaceful Journey Through Bali’s Hidden Rainforest

Our Twin Lake Jungle Tour was one of the most relaxing and authentic experiences we had during our holiday in Bali. If you’re looking to escape the crowds and discover a quieter, more natural side of the island, this is an adventure we would wholeheartedly recommend.

The tour lasted around three hours, exploring the beautiful rainforest surrounding Lake Buyan and Lake Tamblingan, two of Bali’s sacred Twin Lakes hidden high in the cool mountains of North Bali.

From the moment we met our local guide, Made, we knew this would be much more than an ordinary hike. Friendly, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable, he transformed every step of the journey into a fascinating lesson about Bali’s rainforest and traditional way of life.

As we walked beneath the towering jungle canopy, Made introduced us to the incredible variety of plants growing throughout the forest. He showed us which fruits and leaves were edible, explained how local people use medicinal plants collected from the jungle, and pointed out different bird species hidden among the trees. His passion for the rainforest made us appreciate the forest in a completely different way.

The trail itself was easy and enjoyable, making it suitable for almost anyone with a moderate level of fitness. Rather than focusing on a difficult hike, the experience was about slowing down, observing nature, and discovering the incredible biodiversity that exists within Bali’s protected rainforest.

Along the way, Made also shared fascinating stories about Balinese culture and daily village life. We learned about local traditions, family customs, and the important differences between the various types of Balinese temples. These cultural insights added a wonderful dimension to the walk, helping us understand not only the landscape but also the people who have lived in harmony with it for generations.

One of the most memorable moments of the tour came when we stopped at a traditional fisherman’s hut built on wooden stilts beside Lake Tamblingan.

The small lakeside shelter offered beautiful views across the peaceful water and surrounding rainforest. Our host welcomed us warmly and shared fresh tropical fruit picked directly from his own garden. Sitting together, enjoying locally grown fruit in such a tranquil setting, was a simple yet unforgettable experience that perfectly reflected the warmth and generosity of the local community.

After our relaxing break, we continued toward the shores of Lake Tamblingan, where another highlight of the adventure awaited us.

A traditional wooden canoe was ready to take us across the calm lake. Fortunately, an experienced local paddler accompanied us, so we could simply sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenery without worrying about rowing ourselves.

The canoe ride was wonderfully peaceful. The still water reflected the surrounding rainforest and mountains like a mirror, while the silence of the lake created an atmosphere unlike anywhere else we visited in Bali. Because our paddler handled the canoe, we had plenty of time to take photographs and simply enjoy the breathtaking landscape from the middle of the lake.

Looking back, this wasn’t just a jungle walk—it was an opportunity to experience the authentic side of Bali through nature, culture, and genuine local hospitality.

Our guide Made shared not only his knowledge of the rainforest but also his love for his homeland, making every conversation interesting and memorable. The easy trail, fascinating cultural stories, peaceful canoe crossing, and warm welcome from the local fisherman created an experience that felt personal, relaxing, and completely different from Bali’s more crowded attractions.

If you are searching for an authentic adventure that combines ancient rainforest, beautiful lakes, traditional canoeing, local culture, and breathtaking scenery, we cannot recommend the Twin Lake Jungle Tour highly enough.

It is a journey that allows you to slow down, reconnect with nature, and discover the peaceful beauty of Bali that so many visitors never get the chance to see.
