Our Mount Batur Sunrise Trek and Natural Hot Spring Tour became one of the most unforgettable experiences of our Bali holiday. It combined adventure, spectacular scenery, excellent organisation, and well-deserved relaxation into one perfectly planned day that we would happily do again.
From the booking process through to the end of the tour, the team at Bali Local Tour Guide demonstrated outstanding professionalism and customer service.
Although we experienced a small booking issue on the day of the tour, the team responded immediately and handled everything efficiently. Thanks to their quick communication and excellent organisation, we still arrived on time and didn’t miss a single part of the adventure. It was reassuring to see how seriously they took customer satisfaction.
An Early Start with Excellent Preparation
Our day began long before sunrise when our driver arrived at our hotel.
Not only was he punctual—he actually arrived earlier than the scheduled pickup time, giving us plenty of time to prepare without feeling rushed. From the moment we stepped into the vehicle, we felt well looked after.
Before beginning the climb, we were provided with bottled water, fresh orange juice, and an energy bar to help prepare us for the hike ahead. It was a thoughtful touch that gave us extra energy before the challenging ascent.
When we reached the starting point, it was still completely dark. The mountain air was surprisingly cold, and despite wearing jackets and warm clothing, we quickly realised that the early morning temperatures on Mount Batur were much lower than we had expected.
To make matters worse, I realised I had forgotten to bring a torch.
Fortunately, Bali Jungle Trekking had already thought of everything.
The team provided us with headlamps, allowing us to begin the hike safely and comfortably despite the darkness.
Climbing Mount Batur with an Outstanding Guide
At the trailhead we met our local guide, DJ, who immediately impressed us with his warm personality and professional attitude.
From the very beginning, he made sure every member of the group felt comfortable and confident. His friendly sense of humour helped create a relaxed atmosphere, making the climb much more enjoyable.
Partway through the ascent, I began feeling unwell.
Rather than rushing the group, DJ patiently stayed with me, allowing me to rest whenever necessary. He constantly checked how I was feeling and adjusted our pace to match my physical condition. Whenever possible, he chose easier sections of the trail to make the climb more manageable.
His patience, encouragement, and genuine concern made a huge difference and allowed me to successfully reach the summit.
A Magical Sunrise Above the Clouds
After a rewarding climb, we finally arrived at the summit of Mount Batur, where the temperature was around 15°C.
It was freezing.
Standing in the cool mountain air before sunrise, we could hardly feel our hands, but the incredible scenery made us completely forget the cold.
As the first rays of sunlight appeared over the horizon, the sky slowly transformed into brilliant shades of orange, pink, and gold. Watching the sunrise illuminate the volcanic landscape while Mount Agung stood proudly in the distance was one of the most beautiful sights we have ever witnessed.
Every step of the climb suddenly felt worthwhile.
To warm ourselves, we enjoyed a light breakfast prepared at the summit, including banana bread, boiled eggs, and hot coffee or tea.
Although we weren’t particularly hungry after the climb, our guide found another entertaining way to use the remaining food.
He playfully fed some of the friendly monkeys that live around the summit, giving us the opportunity to take several memorable photographs with these curious little residents of Mount Batur. Watching the monkeys interact with visitors added another fun and unique moment to the experience.
Beautiful Views During the Descent
The journey back down the volcano was just as enjoyable.
In daylight, we could finally appreciate the spectacular volcanic landscape surrounding us. Black lava fields, green valleys, and panoramic mountain views created endless opportunities for beautiful photographs that will forever remind us of this incredible adventure.
The Perfect Ending at the Natural Hot Springs
After completing approximately four hours of trekking, our driver was already waiting to continue the day’s adventure.
Just five to ten minutes from the mountain lies one of Bali’s famous natural hot springs, where we spent the next few hours relaxing in warm mineral-rich pools while enjoying stunning views across Lake Batur.
It was the perfect reward after the physical challenge of climbing the volcano.
The warm water soothed our tired muscles, allowing us to completely unwind while reflecting on everything we had experienced that morning.
One thing we especially appreciated was that our driver happily waited for us while we enjoyed the hot springs. We never felt rushed and were given up to three hours to relax at our own pace before returning to the hotel.
An Experience We Will Never Forget
Looking back, this tour offered everything we could have hoped for.
Professional organisation, excellent communication, punctual transportation, thoughtful preparation, an outstanding guide, breathtaking sunrise views, playful monkeys, delicious breakfast, beautiful volcanic scenery, and a relaxing soak in natural hot springs—all perfectly combined into one unforgettable day.
