When planning our holiday in Bali, we wanted more than the usual beaches and crowded tourist attractions. We were looking for authentic adventures, spectacular scenery, and local experiences that would allow us to discover a different side of the island.
After finding Bali Local Tour Guide, we booked two tours that became the absolute highlights of our trip: the Mount Batur Sunrise Trek and the Sambangan Waterfall Trekking Adventure.
Looking back, these two days introduced us to the true beauty of northern Bali—its mountains, waterfalls, villages, and incredibly welcoming local people.
Day One – Conquering Mount Batur at Sunrise
Our first adventure began long before sunrise.
Although the early wake-up call was challenging, every minute of lost sleep was completely worth it.
After arriving at the base of Mount Batur, we met our local trekking guide, Gede, whose professionalism and friendly personality immediately put us at ease.
Rather than rushing up the mountain, Gede carefully adjusted the pace to suit everyone in the group. He encouraged us to stop whenever needed, allowing us to catch our breath while enjoying the incredible night sky filled with stars.
Those quiet moments beneath the stars became part of the magic of the experience.
Watching the Sun Rise Above Bali
After reaching the summit, the temperature dropped noticeably, so bringing an extra jacket was definitely the right decision.
While waiting for dawn, Gede prepared a traditional mountain breakfast including hot tea, coffee, eggs, and bananas cooked using the natural volcanic steam escaping from Mount Batur.
It was such a unique experience that made breakfast feel like part of the adventure itself.
As the first rays of sunlight appeared, the panoramic views became absolutely breathtaking.
Thanks to the exceptionally clear weather, we could see Mount Abang, the majestic Mount Agung, and even Mount Rinjani on the neighbouring island of Lombok.
Watching the sunrise illuminate the volcanic landscape was one of the most beautiful moments of our entire holiday.
Exploring the Volcano
The descent offered a completely different perspective of the mountain.
We explored another side of the volcanic caldera, encountered playful monkeys along the trail, and admired the dramatic lava landscape that tells the story of Mount Batur’s volcanic history.
To complete the experience, we relaxed at the nearby natural hot springs.
Soaking in the warm mineral water while overlooking Lake Batur was the perfect reward after the early morning climb.
It was both relaxing and incredibly refreshing.
Day Two – Waterfalls, Rice Terraces and Adventure
Our second day brought a completely different experience.
After the physical challenge of Mount Batur, the Sambangan Waterfall Trek offered a more relaxed journey through Bali’s beautiful countryside.
Our guide, Desul, led us through peaceful rice terraces, lush tropical valleys, and traditional plantations while introducing us to the incredible variety of local vegetation.
Along the way we learned about lemongrass, cloves, papaya, coconut trees, and many other plants that are essential to daily life in Bali.
His knowledge made every section of the walk both interesting and educational.
Swimming in Hidden Waterfalls
Our first stop was a secluded waterfall hidden deep within the valley.
The crystal-clear natural pool was incredibly refreshing, and because very few visitors were there, we enjoyed a peaceful swim surrounded only by rainforest.
From there we continued to the spectacular Aling-Aling Waterfall, whose powerful cascade created one of the most impressive scenes we saw during our stay in Bali.
But the real excitement was still waiting.
Cliff Jumping and Natural Water Slides
The adventure continued with a series of famous waterfalls offering natural water slides and cliff jumps.
Visitors can choose from jumps of 5 metres, 10 metres, and even an incredible 15 metres.
Standing at the top, each jump looked intimidating.
Then we noticed the sign that perfectly captured the spirit of the adventure:
“Never Try, Never Know.”
Inspired by those words, we challenged ourselves to complete all three jumps.
The adrenaline, excitement, and sense of achievement afterwards created memories that we will never forget.
Throughout the activities, Desul made us feel completely safe while constantly encouraging us and capturing fantastic photographs and videos so we could relive the experience long after returning home.
Discovering Everyday Balinese Life
One of the things that made this tour so special was that the experience extended far beyond the scheduled itinerary.
Our driver, Putu, accompanied us on both days.
He was always punctual, friendly, and incredibly accommodating.
On our second day, he surprised us by taking us to visit local Balinese homes where we learned how traditional palm sugar is still produced using age-old methods.
He also stopped at one of the best viewpoints overlooking the beautiful Twin Lakes of Buyan and Tamblingan, giving us time to enjoy the spectacular scenery and take photographs.
Although it wasn’t included in our original itinerary, he also kindly arranged a visit to the beautiful Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, allowing us to experience one of Bali’s most iconic landmarks without feeling rushed.
These thoughtful additions made the tour feel genuinely personal rather than simply following a fixed schedule.
A Different Side of Bali
Our two days with Bali Jungle Trekking showed us a side of Bali that many visitors never experience.
Instead of crowded tourist destinations, we explored volcanoes, hidden waterfalls, peaceful villages, tropical forests, and authentic local communities.
Every guide and driver we met shared not only their knowledge but also their passion for their homeland.
Their warmth, professionalism, and genuine hospitality transformed every activity into something much more meaningful.
