Sekumpul & Aling-Aling Waterfall Adventure – A Day Filled with Nature, Adventure, and Incredible Hospitality
By – Dana Topping
Our trip to Sekumpul Waterfall and Aling-Aling Waterfall was without question one of the greatest adventures of our holiday in Bali. It combined breathtaking scenery, exciting activities, wonderful local guides, and genuine Balinese hospitality into a day we will never forget.
The experience began early in the morning when our driver, Putu, arrived to pick us up with a big smile. From the very first moment, we felt completely relaxed and knew we were in excellent hands.
The drive to North Bali is quite long, but thanks to Putu, the journey became part of the adventure itself. He shared stories about Balinese life, pointed out interesting places along the route, and created a fun atmosphere by playing a fantastic selection of music. One of the most memorable moments was listening to songs performed by his own band. We had no idea our driver was also a talented musician, and hearing his music made the journey even more personal and enjoyable.
Putu’s kindness went far beyond simply driving us from one place to another. Throughout the day, he happily stopped whenever we needed a break, whether for photographs, refreshments, or simply to stretch our legs. At one point, when I urgently needed a restroom in a small village, he even arranged for a friendly local family to let me use their facilities. It was such a thoughtful gesture and perfectly reflected the incredible hospitality we experienced throughout the tour.
Our first destination was the spectacular Sekumpul Waterfall, often considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Bali.
After meeting our local trekking guide, we began walking through lush plantations, village paths, and descending into the valley surrounded by towering cliffs and tropical rainforest. The guide was friendly, patient, and always willing to stop whenever we wanted to take photographs. In fact, he kindly helped us capture countless photos together, allowing us to simply enjoy the experience without worrying about taking selfies.
As we approached the waterfalls, the sound of rushing water grew louder until the magnificent twin cascades of Sekumpul appeared before us. Standing at the base of these enormous waterfalls, surrounded by mist and dense jungle, was simply breathtaking. It was one of the most beautiful natural landscapes we had ever seen.
After completing the Sekumpul trek, we enjoyed a delicious traditional Balinese lunch before continuing to our next adventure.
The afternoon took us to Aling-Aling Waterfall, famous not only for its beauty but also for its exciting natural water activities.
Here, the adventure became even more thrilling.
We had the opportunity to swim in crystal-clear natural pools, slide down smooth rock formations shaped by centuries of flowing water, and experience one of the activities that had both excited and terrified me all day—cliff jumping.
Standing on the edge of the waterfall, I honestly wasn’t sure I could do it.
Fortunately, the local guides were incredibly experienced, patient, and encouraging. They carefully explained every step, reassured me that it was safe, and stayed beside me until I felt confident enough to jump.
Taking that leap into the refreshing pool below became one of the biggest achievements of my entire holiday. The excitement, relief, and joy I felt afterwards are difficult to describe, and I probably never would have done it without the confidence the guides gave me.
By the end of the afternoon, we were tired but incredibly happy.
As always, Putu was waiting for us with his warm smile, ready to begin the drive back. Even after such a long day, his kindness continued. Knowing we would arrive back late, he generously offered to take us directly to a restaurant for dinner before returning us to our accommodation. It was another thoughtful gesture that perfectly reflected how much he genuinely cared about his guests.
Looking back, this experience was so much more than a waterfall tour.
It was a full day of spectacular scenery, exciting adventure, warm local hospitality, unforgettable conversations, beautiful music, delicious food, and genuine friendships.
A heartfelt thank you to Putu, our fantastic local trekking guides, and everyone at Bali Jungle Trekking for creating such an unforgettable experience.
If you’re looking for the ultimate North Bali adventure—combining the breathtaking beauty of Sekumpul Waterfall, the adrenaline of Aling-Aling Waterfall, authentic Balinese hospitality, and guides who truly care about their guests—we cannot recommend this tour highly enough.
It was one of the most beautiful and memorable days of our entire trip to Bali, and we will treasure these memories forever.
