Discovering the Heart of Rural Bali – A Beautiful Mayong Village Walking Tour

By- Juliette D

Some of the most memorable travel experiences don’t come from famous landmarks or crowded attractions. Instead, they happen in quiet villages where local people welcome you into their daily lives.

That is exactly what we experienced during our Mayong Village Walking Tour with Bali Local Tour Guide.

From the moment we arrived, we knew this would be much more than an ordinary walk through the countryside.

Meeting Our Local Guide

Our guide, Dede, welcomed us with a warm smile and immediately made us feel like guests rather than tourists.

Being a local who has spent his entire life in Mayong Village, he shared his knowledge with genuine passion and pride.

As we walked through rice terraces, plantations, and peaceful village paths, every stop became an opportunity to learn something new.

Learning About Balinese Agriculture

One of the highlights of the tour was discovering the incredible variety of crops grown around Mayong.

Dede explained how local farmers cultivate rice, coffee, cacao, cloves, bananas, coconuts, and many other tropical plants that thrive in Bali’s fertile volcanic soil.

Rather than simply pointing at the plants, he described how they are grown, harvested, and used in everyday Balinese life.

It gave us a much deeper appreciation of the hard work that goes into producing the food we often take for granted.

Walking through the countryside while listening to these stories made the landscape feel alive with history and tradition.

Understanding Balinese Culture

Beyond agriculture, Dede also shared fascinating insights into Balinese culture, local traditions, family life, and the spiritual beliefs that shape everyday life in the village.

He patiently answered every question we had and explained everything in a simple and easy-to-understand way.

It was refreshing to experience Bali through the eyes of someone who truly calls this village home.

Instead of visiting tourist attractions, we were learning directly from the people who preserve these traditions every day.

A Delicious Homemade Balinese Meal

After our walk, we were invited to enjoy a traditional homemade Balinese meal prepared by Dede’s family.

The food was fresh, authentic, and absolutely delicious.

Eating together in a local family home added a very personal touch to the experience.

It felt less like joining a commercial tour and more like being welcomed into someone’s home.

Genuine Balinese Hospitality

What made this experience truly unforgettable was the kindness of Dede and his family.

Everyone welcomed us with genuine warmth, making us feel comfortable from beginning to end.

Their hospitality reflected the true spirit of rural Bali—simple, sincere, and incredibly generous.

These personal moments are often the ones that stay with you long after a holiday has ended.

An Experience We Highly Recommend

The  Mayong Village Culture walk is perfect for travellers who want to experience the authentic side of Bali beyond the beaches and busy tourist destinations.

Beautiful countryside, fascinating cultural stories, traditional farming, delicious homemade food, and heartfelt hospitality all come together to create an experience that feels both relaxing and meaningful.

A heartfelt thank you to Dede and his wonderful family for sharing your home, your knowledge, and your culture with us.

If you’re looking for a genuine cultural experience in North Bali, we highly recommend this beautiful journey through Mayong Village. It is an experience you’ll remember long after you leave Bali.
