A 1 AM Journey from Lovina to Mount Batur – Kintamani

An Early Morning Adventure from Lovina to Mount Batur

22 August 2026

This morning, 22 August 2026, we started another memorable adventure with our clients from The Lovina Bali Resort. Just two days earlier, we had explored the lush forests of Tamblingan and trekked through the beautiful Munduk waterfalls together. Today, however, our journey took us in a completely different direction—to East Bali for a Mount Batur sunrise trekking experience.

For travelers staying in North Bali, combining a stay in Lovina with a Mount Batur sunrise trek offers an incredible opportunity to experience two very different sides of Bali: the peaceful northern coast and the dramatic volcanic landscape of the island’s east.

A 1:00 AM Start from Lovina

Our morning began at around 1:00 AM, when we picked up our clients from The Lovina. While most of Bali was still sleeping, we started our journey toward the Mount Batur trekking area.

The drive through the quiet night was part of the adventure. Leaving the peaceful atmosphere of North Bali behind, we gradually made our way toward the highlands around Kintamani and Mount Batur.

We arrived at the Mount Batur trekking starting point at around 3:00 AM.

After arriving, we took some time for a short preparation and briefing. Before every trek, we want our clients to understand the route, the approximate trekking time, the conditions they may encounter, and what to expect during the climb.

At approximately 3:30 AM, we began our ascent.

Trekking Mount Batur Under the Night Sky

The first part of the trek was completed in darkness, guided by our headlamps and the quiet rhythm of the mountain trail.

There is something special about hiking Mount Batur before sunrise. The surroundings are almost completely dark, and the mountain gradually reveals itself as you climb higher. Instead of sightseeing along the way, the focus is on the trail, the rhythm of walking, and the anticipation of what awaits at the summit.

Our local guide stayed with the clients throughout the trek, helping with the pace, route, and short breaks whenever needed.

Although the climb requires effort, the reward at the top makes every step worthwhile.

Reaching the Summit Before Sunrise

We were fortunate to reach the summit at just before 6:00 AM, giving us enough time to find a comfortable spot and prepare for sunrise.

Once we reached the top, our focus shifted from trekking to enjoying the moment.

As the sky slowly began to brighten, we prepared a simple breakfast for our clients, together with fresh coffee and tea to help warm them up after the early-morning climb.

There is something uniquely satisfying about having a hot drink and breakfast on a volcanic summit while waiting for the first light of the day.

Then the sunrise began.

A Beautiful Sunrise Above Bali

The morning rewarded us with a beautiful sunrise from Mount Batur.

As the darkness disappeared, the surrounding volcanic landscape gradually became visible. The changing colors of the sky created a spectacular backdrop, while the mountains and valleys below slowly emerged in the morning light.

Our clients were extremely happy with the experience.

For us, this is one of the most rewarding parts of being a local Bali tour guide—not simply taking guests from one destination to another, but being there to share a special moment with them.

A sunrise trek is an early start and requires some physical effort, but moments like this make the journey worthwhile.

From North Bali to Mount Batur

One of the things we particularly enjoy about this experience is the journey itself.

Our clients were staying in Lovina, North Bali, and just two days earlier we had spent time together trekking around Tamblingan and Munduk. That experience introduced them to Bali’s lush forests, waterfalls, and cooler mountain landscapes.

Today’s adventure was completely different.

Instead of walking through dense tropical forest, we climbed an active volcano before dawn and watched the sun rise from above the clouds and surrounding mountains.

Together, these experiences show how diverse Bali can be when explored with a local guide.

Returning to Lovina

After enjoying the sunrise, breakfast, coffee, and the magnificent views from the summit, we began our descent.

The return journey gave us a completely different perspective of the mountain because daylight had arrived. What had been a dark trail during the ascent was now surrounded by volcanic scenery and mountain landscapes.

After completing the trek and returning to our vehicle, we started the journey back toward North Bali.

By approximately 11:00 AM, we were back at the hotel.

From a 1:00 AM departure to an 11:00 AM return, it was a long morning—but one filled with adventure, beautiful scenery, good conversation, and a sunrise that our clients will hopefully remember for a long time.

Experience Mount Batur Sunrise with a Local Bali Guide

A Mount Batur sunrise trek from Lovina is an excellent choice for travelers who want to experience one of Bali’s most iconic mountain adventures while staying in North Bali.

With a local guide, the experience can be more personal and comfortable—from the early-morning pickup and trekking preparation to managing the pace of the climb and preparing breakfast, coffee, and tea at the summit.

At Bali Local Tour Guide, we focus on creating experiences that combine adventure with genuine local service. Whether you are interested in Mount Batur sunrise trekking, Tamblingan jungle trekking, Munduk waterfalls, North Bali tours, or private Bali experiences, we can help create an itinerary around your interests and schedule.

This morning was another reminder that Bali is best experienced one adventure at a time—sometimes deep inside an ancient forest, and sometimes standing on top of a volcano waiting for the first light of day.

Mount Batur was our destination this morning. The sunrise was the reward. The memories are what our clients take home.
