Before travelling to Bali, I knew I wanted to propose to my girlfriend somewhere truly extraordinary. Bali seemed like the perfect destination, but I wanted something more meaningful than a crowded beach or a busy tourist attraction. An Early Morning Adventure
Our journey began at 1:00 AM, when our driver arrived at our hotel exactly on time.
The drive through the quiet Balinese countryside was peaceful and exciting as we made our way toward the foot of Mount Batur. Around 3:00 AM, we reached the local village where our trek would begin.
Despite the large number of hikers preparing for the climb, the entire experience was organised so well that we never felt crowded. Once we started walking, it genuinely felt as though we had the mountain almost to ourselves.
With only the light from the headlamps provided by Bali Jungle Trekking, we slowly made our way up the volcanic trail beneath a sky full of stars.
The darkness added a real sense of adventure, making every step towards the summit even more exciting.
A Sunrise We Will Never Forget
After a rewarding climb, we reached the summit just before dawn.
The timing couldn’t have been more perfect.
As the sky slowly changed from deep blue to shades of pink, orange, and gold, the spectacular volcanic landscape around us began to emerge. The sunrise over Bali was every bit as breathtaking as we had imagined.

It was peaceful, emotional, and completely uninterrupted—a memory that we will treasure forever.
Breakfast Cooked by a Volcano
After celebrating together and taking in the incredible scenery, we were treated to a unique mountain breakfast.
We enjoyed hot banana sandwiches, boiled eggs, and freshly prepared tea and coffee, with the eggs cooked using the natural volcanic steam rising from Mount Batur itself.
After the cool morning climb, enjoying a warm breakfast while watching the sun rise over Bali made the experience even more memorable.
Discovering More of Mount Batur
Rather than immediately descending, our guide spent time showing us around the summit, explaining the surrounding volcanic landscape, nearby villages, and the natural history of the mountain.
His knowledge added another fascinating dimension to the experience, helping us appreciate not only the incredible views but also the cultural and geological significance of one of Bali’s most famous volcanoes.
As daylight fully arrived, we began our descent.
Walking back through the volcanic landscape and into the surrounding rainforest revealed spectacular scenery that had been hidden during the climb in darkness. Every turn offered another beautiful view and plenty of opportunities for unforgettable photographs.

Once we reached the bottom, our driver was already waiting to comfortably take us back to our hotel.
Throughout the entire experience, everything ran flawlessly.
