Some tours impress you with beautiful scenery, while others leave a lasting impression because of the people you meet along the way.
Our Sambangan Waterfall Tour with Bali Local Tour Guide gave us both.
From spectacular waterfalls and exciting cliff jumps to unforgettable local cuisine and the incredible hospitality of our driver and guide, this became one of the most memorable days of our holiday in Bali.
An Early Start from Sanur
My wife and I were staying in Sanur and arranged the waterfall tour with Bali Local Tour Guide.
Normally the tour begins with a 6:00 AM pickup, but because we wanted a little extra time for breakfast, the company kindly adjusted our pickup to 6:30 AM.
This flexibility immediately showed us how customer-focused the team is.
Our driver, Putu, greeted us with a warm smile and made us feel comfortable from the moment we stepped into the vehicle.
Throughout the drive to Sambangan Village, he shared stories about local life and the beautiful countryside of North Bali, making the journey enjoyable rather than simply transportation.
Exploring Sambangan Village
After arriving in Sambangan, we met our local trekking guide, Gus, who would accompany us throughout the waterfall adventure.
Before reaching the waterfalls, we walked through traditional village paths surrounded by tropical vegetation, rice fields, and local plantations.
It was wonderful to experience a quieter, more authentic side of Bali far away from the busy tourist areas.
Along the way, Gus introduced us to local plants, village life, and the surrounding nature, making the trek both interesting and educational.
And somewhere along the trail, I received my very first “jungle tattoo”—tiny scratches from the tropical plants that every jungle explorer seems to collect as a badge of honour!
Swimming in the Blue Lagoon
Our first destination was the famous Blue Lagoon, a beautiful natural pool hidden deep within the valley.
The crystal-clear turquoise water looked almost unreal.
After hiking through the warm tropical weather, diving into the cool mountain water was incredibly refreshing.
It was the perfect place to relax, swim, and simply enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
The beauty of the Blue Lagoon alone would have made the trip worthwhile.
Waterfalls, Cliff Jumps, and Adventure
The adventure continued as Gus led us to several more spectacular waterfalls hidden throughout Sambangan.
Each waterfall had its own unique beauty and offered different experiences.
For those looking for a little adrenaline, there were opportunities to jump from natural cliffs and leap directly into the deep pools below.
There were also exciting natural waterfall slides created by centuries of flowing water.
Whether you prefer swimming, relaxing, or challenging yourself with cliff jumps, the tour offers something for everyone.
Standing beneath the powerful waterfalls surrounded by lush rainforest was an unforgettable experience that reminded us how beautiful Bali’s natural landscapes truly are.
The Best Local Lunch We Had in Bali
After hours of trekking, swimming, and exploring, we were more than ready for lunch.
Putu brought us to a small local restaurant that very few tourists would ever discover on their own.
The staff spoke almost no English, which made it feel even more authentic.
And then came one of the best meals we had during our entire stay in Bali.
The freshly grilled fish was cooked over burning coconut shells, giving it an incredible smoky flavour that we’ve never tasted before.
Served alongside traditional Balinese spices and sambal, it was absolutely delicious.
But the biggest surprise was the soup.
Rich, aromatic, and packed with incredible flavours, it was honestly one of the best soups I have ever eaten.
Even now, long after returning home, I still find myself thinking about that meal.
Discovering Traditional Palm Sugar
The cultural experiences didn’t end with lunch.
On the drive back, Putu stopped at a traditional village where local families still produce palm sugar using methods that have been passed down through generations.
We watched the traditional process from start to finish and even received a piece of freshly made palm sugar to take home as a souvenir.
It was fascinating to see this important part of Balinese rural life and appreciate the craftsmanship behind something so simple.
An Unexpected Invitation
Just when we thought the day was over, Putu surprised us with one final experience.
He invited us to visit his own family home.
There, we enjoyed a cup of authentic Kopi Luwak while chatting about Balinese culture, family life, and our travels.
It wasn’t part of the official itinerary.
It was simply a gesture of genuine Balinese hospitality.
Sharing coffee in his home made us feel less like tourists and more like friends.
It was the perfect ending to an already unforgettable day.
A Day We’ll Always Remember
Looking back, this tour offered so much more than just beautiful waterfalls.
We explored hidden rainforest trails.
Swam in crystal-clear natural pools.
Experienced exciting cliff jumps.
Learned about village life.
Enjoyed one of the best traditional meals of our holiday.
Discovered how palm sugar is still made.
And experienced genuine hospitality inside a local Balinese family home.
A heartfelt thank you to Putu, Gus, and the entire Bali Local Tour Guide team for creating such a memorable adventure.
If you’re looking for an authentic North Bali experience filled with spectacular waterfalls, local culture, outstanding food, and genuinely caring local guides, we cannot recommend this tour highly enough.
