Three Incredible Days That Took Us to the True Heart of Bali

Three Incredible Days That Took Us to the True Heart of Bali

Some trips simply allow you to visit a destination. Others completely change the way you see it. Our 3 Days Bali Jungle Trekking Expedition with Bali Local Tour Guide was one of those unforgettable journeys that introduced us to the authentic heart and soul of Bali.

We booked the tour at the very last minute, unsure if everything could be organised in time. To our surprise, the entire itinerary was arranged almost immediately. From hotel pickup to accommodation, trekking permits, local guides, transportation, and meals, everything was handled professionally and seamlessly. Our wonderful driver, Putu, picked us up from the other side of the island and made us feel welcome from the very beginning. His kindness and helpful attitude immediately set the tone for the adventure ahead.

Day 1 – Mount Lesong and the Ancient Rainforest

Our adventure began with an exciting trek to Mount Lesong, one of North Bali’s hidden volcanic peaks overlooking the Twin Lakes. Unlike the crowded hiking routes found elsewhere on the island, the trail was peaceful and surrounded by pristine tropical rainforest. Along the way, our guide shared fascinating stories about the forest ecosystem, local traditions, and the sacred significance of the mountain.

One of the greatest pleasures of the journey was spending time with our guide, Komang. His passion for nature was infectious, and we happily “nerded out” together discussing Bali’s incredible birdlife. Every section of the trail revealed something new—from colourful tropical birds to towering rainforest trees and unique native plants.

Day 2 – Waterfalls, Rivers and Genuine Adventure

The second day brought even more excitement as we explored some of North Bali’s spectacular hidden waterfalls. Heavy monsoon rain transformed the trek into a real adventure, but instead of becoming a problem, it made the experience even more memorable.

With our guide Oka leading the way, we crossed flowing rivers, navigated muddy jungle trails, and discovered beautiful waterfalls hidden deep within the rainforest. Oka’s calm experience and cheerful attitude gave us complete confidence throughout the day, turning every challenge into another unforgettable memory.

Despite the rain, every waterfall looked even more spectacular, with powerful cascades surrounded by lush tropical vegetation. It felt wild, authentic, and far removed from Bali’s crowded tourist attractions.

Discovering Bali Through Coffee and Local Families

One of the absolute highlights of the expedition was staying with local families instead of conventional hotels.

Our first overnight stay was at Kadek’s De Koffie Plantation, a fourth-generation organic agroforestry farm nestled among the hills. Kadek welcomed us like old friends and proudly introduced us to his family plantation, explaining how coffee, spices, fruits, and medicinal plants have been cultivated sustainably for generations.

We even had the opportunity to roast our own coffee beans using traditional methods before preparing and enjoying a delicious cup of authentic kopi tubruk. It wasn’t simply a coffee tasting—it was a wonderful lesson in Balinese farming traditions and family heritage.

The second evening was equally unforgettable as we stayed with Putu Berlin and his family. Their generosity, warm hospitality, and lively conversations made us feel completely at home. Sharing stories over dinner, learning about daily village life, and experiencing genuine Balinese hospitality became some of the most treasured moments of our entire trip.

Walking Through the Living Landscape of Bali

Throughout the expedition, we walked not only through dense rainforest but also across peaceful rice terraces, traditional coffee plantations, village paths, and beautiful countryside that most visitors never have the opportunity to experience.

Every guide we met brought something unique to the journey. They weren’t simply leading the way—they were sharing their knowledge, their culture, and their passion for protecting Bali’s extraordinary natural environment.

More Than a Trek—A Journey Into the Soul of Bali

Looking back, these three days gave us something that no ordinary sightseeing tour could ever offer. We experienced authentic village life, stayed with local families, explored ancient rainforests, climbed volcanic mountains, crossed rivers, discovered hidden waterfalls, learned about traditional coffee production, and built genuine friendships with the wonderful people who welcomed us along the way.

By the end of the expedition, we realised that Bali is so much more than the busy streets of Ubud, Kuta, or the island’s famous tourist attractions. The real magic of Bali lives in its mountains, forests, villages, and, above all, in the warmth and generosity of its people.

These precious memories will stay with us forever.

To everyone at Bali Jungle Trekking—our guides, drivers, hosts, and families—thank you for sharing your beautiful island with us in such a personal and meaningful way. We cannot recommend this experience highly enough. If you are searching for an authentic adventure that combines nature, culture, and heartfelt hospitality, this three-day jungle trekking expedition is truly one of the best experiences Bali has to offer.
