Twin Lakes Jungle Trek – An Authentic Adventure from Start to Finish

Before arriving in Bali, we knew we wanted to experience something beyond the usual tourist attractions. We had heard about the Twin Lakes Jungle Trek, but after arriving on the island we couldn’t find it at any local travel desks or tourist information centres.

Instead, we contacted Bali Local Tour Guide directly through WhatsApp. To our surprise, we received an almost immediate reply. The booking process was incredibly simple and professional. After sending our enquiry online, we received confirmation within just a few hours and were able to join the trek the very next day. It was one of the easiest tour bookings we made during our entire holiday.

The following morning, our friendly driver arrived at our hotel in Padang Bai right on time. What impressed us immediately was his patience and flexibility. Before beginning the long journey, he happily waited while we enjoyed breakfast, making sure we started the day comfortably without feeling rushed.

The drive to North Bali took around two and a half hours, but it was enjoyable thanks to the beautiful scenery and the driver’s friendly conversation. Complimentary bottled water was provided throughout the journey, and we made our first stop at one of the area’s sacred temples, where we could admire the peaceful surroundings before continuing to the trailhead.

When we arrived, our local guide warmly welcomed us and made sure we had fresh drinking water before setting off into the rainforest.

The trek lasted approximately two and a half hours, and it exceeded every expectation we had.

Rather than simply leading us through the forest, our guide introduced us to the rich culture and traditions of the Twin Lakes region. We visited a beautiful local temple, where he explained the significance of Balinese Hinduism, traditional ceremonies, and the important role these sacred places continue to play in village life today.

From there, we entered the ancient rainforest surrounding Lake Buyan and Lake Tamblingan. Walking beneath towering tropical trees, surrounded by giant ferns, vines, and the sounds of birds, felt like stepping into another world. The peaceful atmosphere and untouched beauty of the forest made every step enjoyable.

As we continued our journey, our guide shared fascinating information about native plants, medicinal herbs, wildlife, and the importance of preserving this protected ecosystem. His knowledge and enthusiasm transformed the walk into both an adventure and a learning experience.

One of the highlights of the day was visiting both of Bali’s famous Twin Lakes, each offering spectacular views and a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere.

To complete the trek, we boarded a traditional wooden canoe for a 20-minute crossing of Lake Tamblingan. The calm lake, surrounded by dense rainforest and misty mountains, created one of the most tranquil moments of our holiday. Sitting quietly while crossing the sacred lake allowed us to fully appreciate the untouched beauty of North Bali.

After reaching the opposite shore, our driver was already waiting to continue the day’s journey.

He took us to a nearby local restaurant where a delicious traditional Balinese lunch had been arranged. The meal included a generous main course and a refreshing drink, providing the perfect opportunity to relax after the morning’s adventure while enjoying authentic local flavours.

Following lunch, we began the journey back to our hotel. Once again, our driver ensured we remained comfortable by providing additional bottled water and making the return trip as relaxing as the journey out.

Looking back, what impressed us most was how smoothly everything was organised. From the fast communication during the booking process, the punctual hotel pickup, knowledgeable guide, beautiful rainforest trek, cultural insights, peaceful canoe crossing, delicious local lunch, and comfortable transportation, every detail had been carefully planned.

The professionalism, friendliness, and genuine hospitality shown by everyone at Bali Jungle Trekking made this one of the best organised tours we experienced during our stay in Bali.

If you’re looking for an authentic adventure that combines ancient rainforest, sacred temples, traditional canoeing, breathtaking scenery, and fascinating Balinese culture, we can wholeheartedly recommend the Twin Lakes Jungle Trek.

It was an unforgettable experience and one of the true highlights of our Bali holiday.
